It seems as if the strategy in most games in Auralux is to determine which planet an opponent most wants to initially capture, and then capturing that planet and denying it to your opponent. In Surge, I tried many strategies before it occurred to me that maybe you could deny both opponents their initial capture. This wouldn’t work if it weren’t for the fact that your opponents will not continue an attack when they get too close to the shock wave.
- From 0:00 to 0:21, send your units to capture the double directly in front of one of your opponents. Even though this video shows the first capture is on the green side, this approach works either way. When those units are about halfway to capturing the double planet, start sending and continually send units towards the double planet directly in front of orange. As soon as your units capture the double in front of green, start sending units from both of your planets to the double planet in front of green. When the double in front of orange is about 75% captured, stop sending from the planet in front of green. You need to leave this planet strong enough to withstand an attack from green.
- From 0:22 to 0:27, start sending units from your initial planet to a spot near your planet in front of green. These will be useful in thwarting an imminent attack. Once green attacks, use these units to reinforce your planet only after the red strength indicator shows up. If you apply these units to the planet too soon, they will go towards promoting the planet instead of reinforcing it.
- From 0:27 to 0:33, start sending all of your units towards promoting you top planet to a double. This will leave your other planets weaker, but you only need them to survive the attacks from the opponents, they don’t need to be fully healthy. Once your planets withstand this attack, they won’t be attacked again. They only need to still exist so they can produce units. In this video the planet in front of green is at about 2% strength, while the one in front of orange is at about 60% strength.
- From 0:34 to 0:36, notice how the units of your opponents quit attacking as the shock wave gets to close to them, that is why we can leave these planets weakened when your opponents are strong enough to decimate them. Here we are using the shock wave as a shield to protect us.
- From 0:37 to 0:46, as soon as you promote the top double planet, capture one of the single planets. You don’t have enough time to capture both of these planets, so just choose one.
- From 0:47 to 1:05, as the shock wave passes your planets start positioning your units in front of your opponent on the opposite side of the extra single planet you just captured. The reason for this is that you want that single planet closer to the last planet you’ll be destroying. You are only trying to get enough units positioned that will be needed to destroy orange. The more you send, the longer it will take you to destroy green.
- From 1:07 to 1:08, when the shock wave starts uncovering orange, attack and destroy it. As soon as you send your units to attack orange, start attacking green with all remaining units.
From here you just need to continue the attack on green until it is destroyed.
