Walls (Cetus) Cells walk-through, completed in 1:37.0

The strategy used here is slightly modified from what was used in a previous post on Cells. The difference comes at around 0:30 where a planet is promoted to double. While this change helped improve my times, the main difference that allowed the time achieved in this video comes from how the opponents attack. Usually orange will attack my initial planet. In this video, green attacked first, allowing orange to come in second and capture the top center planet. This has only happened for me a couple of times, but when you are lucky enough to get this, you can get a really good time.

Walk-through

  1. From 0:00 to 0:20, send your units to capture the double planet directly below one of your opponents. When these units are about halfway to the double planet, start sending units towards the single planet on the same side. Sometimes the opponent will double up at this point. In this video orange took until 0:17 to double its initial planet. I think that may be the key to how this played out. If orange does anything but double their initial planet, start over.
  2. From 0:21 to 0:42, when the walls come back up, promote your double planet directly below orange. In this video, green has only partially captured a planet. When this happens send units from your initial planet to attack that partially captured planet. This is to try to keep green from sending units there and completing the capture.
  3. From 0:43 to 0:48, when the walls come down, send the excess units from your top planet to reinforce your other planets. This is to make your other planets stronger and less of a target for orange and to make your top planet weaker and more of a target. In this video green attacks the top planet first, making it possible for orange to attack and capture the planet afterwards. This rarely happens and when it does you need to be ready to take advantage of the opportunity.
  4. From 0:49 to 0:55, after orange attacks the center planet. Attack, destroy and capture the orange double planet.
  5. From 0:56 to 1:03, I wasn’t really sure what to do at this point, and just as I decided to attack green the walls came back up. This was fortunate for me. If I get to this point again, I’ll try capturing the bottom planet instead.
  6. From 1:04 to 1:24, send units to attack the bottom planet. This is to get green to give up on capturing that planet and to attack orange instead.

When the walls come down and green attacks the orange planet, you just need to destroy the green planets as fast as possible.

Crush

Shockwaves (Taurus) Crush walk-through, completed in 1:58.6

The strategy used here is very similar to a previous post on Crush. However, the difference is very significant. Previously I wanted green to capture the center planet. Now I want orange to capture the center. When green would capture the center, I noticed that there were quite a few times when it wouldn’t get its original planet promoted to a double prior to the shock wave passing.

It occurred to me that if that were orange instead, then orange would be quite a bit weaker after the shock wave passes. This would make it take orange longer to build up its strength and recapture its planets after the shock wave passed.

Walk-through

  1. From 0:00 to 0:39, the initial captures. If green captures the center planet, start over.
  2. From 0:40 to 0:42, use the attack and release method against the orange center planet. This is to get orange to absorb its extra units into the center planet instead of sending them back to capture another planet. This will slow down the growth of orange and make it more likely that it won’t be able to promote its initial planet. If orange even partially promotes its initial planet, start over.
  3. From 0:43 to 0:51, mass your units in preparation for taking out the green double planet.
  4. From 0:52 to 0:56, destroy and then capture the green double planet.
  5. From 0:57 to 1:04, start massing all of your units to a position near the front orange double..
  6.  From 1:05 to 1:08, here I’m using attacks on the front orange double to try and prevent it from reinforcing the center planet. This is because I want green to destroy the center planet.
  7. From 1:09 to 1:16, orange does finally send reinforcements to the center planet, but that is okay because they are used to promote the planet to a triple. While green is destroying the center planet, attack and destroy the orange double planet.
  8. From 1:17 to 1:23, attack and destroy the green double planet. While your units are enroute to the green double planet, start sending units from your rear planets to the bottom where you can use them in your next attack against green. If you get to this point and any of your opponents still occupy their front double planet, or the center planet, start over.
  9. From 1:24 to 1:28, while sending your mass of units down near the green planets, start sending units from your rear planets to the top so they can eventually be used against orange.
  10. From 1:29 to 1:40, attack and destroy both of the green planets. While you are doing this keep massing your units near orange.
  11. From 1:41 to 1:43, attack and destroy the top orange double planet.

From here, destroy the remaining orange planets as quickly as possible.
